As the reality sets in that we may be working from home for longer than anyone initially anticipated, more CEOs and entrepreneurs who frequently work remotely are offering smart advice to bring the rest of us up to speed. According to Inc.com, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner, "…has unique insight into how the world of work is transforming right before our eyes because of the Covid-19 pandemic." Here we've compiled some of those unique tips to help your organization's remote workday flow a little better.

  1. Make the most of your "free" time. We all know that downtime in between feedback or emails is one of the perks of working remotely because you can use that time to tackle other tasks. Weiner suggests to "carve out real buffer time: to catch your breath, get some exercise, or whatever you enjoy doing that helps put your mind at ease. It not only benefits you; it will benefit all of the people that count on you as well."
  2. Schedule everyone's time, not just yours. As many of us are simultaneously tackling working from home while homeschooling our children, it's important to schedule your time as carefully as you plan your children's time so that they can be on a task when you need to be in full work mode.
  3. Lower your expectations and stop scheduling back to back meetings. Times have changed, and so have your circumstances, so plan your meetings and blocks of cooperative time with coworkers with buffer built-in between so you can tackle the home tasks without interruptions during the full focus times, like Zoom conferences with your boss! Weiner says, "There is no faster way to feel as though your day is not your own, and that you are no longer in control than scheduling meetings back to back from the minute you arrive at the office until the moment you leave. I've felt the effects of this and seen it with colleagues. Not only is it not fun to feel this way, but it's also not sustainable."

There are a variety of time management tools that may help you stay on task and not let anything slip through the cracks as we all readjust to this new remote work schedule. Check out Remember the Milk, Rescue Time, or Evernote if you think this may help you get more organized. And don't forget that we are here to help!
