Meet the Team | Stephen Berg, Project Management

Hands-on project management is a critical piece of the IT managed services puzzle because when you have a complex installation, you need knowledgeable and efficient project management to get it done on time and within budget. That is where our in-house guru Stephen Berg steps in. Stephen is very organized, detailed, and deadline-oriented. He is educated in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and has integrated many of its processes into ICX's project practices to increase overall efficiency. Stephen says, "I believe that good communication among project stakeholders (team members) and proper documentation are crucial to the overall success of a project. I have worked in other management positions before becoming a Project Manager, and in general, I do not believe in micro-management. Just as an effective manager sets proper expectations with their staff and trusts them to perform their required work, the same applies in project management. The difference is that instead of perhaps only one team of staff being managed, there are far more moving parts in a project that can span multiple company departments and various company resources."
Stephen joined the ICX team in March 2016, and loves seeing the year-over-year improvements that ICX has made in terms of growth, positions creation, on-site staffing, critical platform upgrades, and efficiency. He began as the Process Control Manager, a position that was created to manage a team of four help desk technicians and provide a direct resource to our client base for all support needs. This position quickly grew to include critical projects management, which then transitioned his role in the company exclusively to Project Management. Stephen explains, "My old role was backfilled, and based on the increasing volume of project work a new Project Manager was added to the team. I then moved into a newly created role of Director of Project Management. In just the last couple of years, I have watched ICX grow to add dedicated positions in Service, Finance, Sales, Contracts, Procurement, Marketing, and Systems Administration. Each of these added positions has increased the overall effectiveness of the rest of the team."
Stephen is a graduate of The Florida State University and holds a degree in Studio Art with a concentration in Graphic Design. After several years of working for a legal-exhibit design company, he stumbled upon a local sports technology company that provided solutions in Information Display Systems (IDS) to both the NBA and the NHL. Being the sports nut he is, he signed on, left his job in legal graphics, and became consumed with sports + technology. His position was as a game "monitor" (literally watching NBA and NHL games and their scores/stats on the internet), which then transitioned into being a Technician. After eight years there, he moved on to IT Management at Community Hospice of NE FL, where he worked for seven years before joining ICX.
Stephen is an admitted 'sports fanatic' and loves all professional sports teams in Chicago (his former home). His time at IDS offered him numerous travel opportunities in the world of professional sports, of which he took full advantage. In addition to sports, Stephen is an avid traveler and has been to many different places over the years. He and his lovely wife Sunny got married in Rome, Italy, and spent ten days there. Stephen also has dual citizenship in Italy and a Euro passport to make travel there easier. They have also spent time in Oahu, Hawaii, and cruising in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Alaska, and Mexican Riviera.
